The trip to the conference involved a flight to Oulu and a ferry ride to
the island... here's the ferry.
On arrival, we stretched our legs and looked around. It's nice to see so
many academicians outstanding in their field...
Lasse told us we'd be staying here, and we got excited until we realized
he wasn't referring to the lighthouse.
It was nonetheless a comfortable and pleasant place to stay.
Most of the Bothnian Bay Research Station was made up of these little red
buildings.
The station is powered by windmills, which I found fascinating...
A map by the main buildings described a variety of trails one could follow.
Both through the woods,
And along the shore.
We were lucky enough to join one fishing boat on an outing.
We all suited up in our lifejackets...
I call this photo "Statisticians at Sea".
Our host mainly ignored us as he went about the business of fishing.
It was clearly a working boat, every inch crammed with equipment.
The fishing trip gave us a chance to see our temporary home from some new
angles.
I think they usually call this "the big picture".
Still continuing my love affair with windmills...
The conference itself was held in the dining hall, a cheerful and comfortable
room.
Goodnight, windmills!
Goodnight, harbor!
Goodnight, all!
