Division of Biometry

The main scientific goal of our division is to carry out original methodological research, with an emphasis on concrete scientific problems coming from biology, medicine and public health.

We have extensive collaboration with the National Institute of Public Health. Research topics are currently focussed on the statistical methods applied to genetic mapping, mathematical modeling of infectious diseases, and on the modeling and statistical analysis of lifetime and duration data.

Together with researchers from the Department of Biology, University of Oulu, the statistical genetics research group of the Division of Biometry was awarded the status of Centre of Excellence of the Academy of Finland for the years 2002-2007, with the title "Centre of Population Genetic Analyses".
